Lorri  Shealy Unumb (a SCWLA member) is being considered for an award for Autism Speaks, a $100,000 award from NASCAR!

You have the opportunity to vote online for this very worthy cause which Lorri brought so vividly to our attention at the Midlands luncheon earlier this year when she spoke to us about autism.  Lorri is 1 of 4 finalists selected nationwide for the NASCAR Foundations's Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award. Each finalist received $25,000 donation to the charity of their choice. In Lorri's case, Autism Academy of South Carolina.  She can win the $100,000 prize, which is selected based on online voting.  Please vote here:

For the past 25 years Lorri Shealy Unumb has impacted thousands of children with special needs. As a mother of three, Lorri was deeply impacted when her oldest son, Ryan, was diagnosed with severe autism in 2003 and was devastated to learn that her insurance would not cover the cost of treatment for children with autism. As a result, the 44-year-old Lexington, S.C., resident wrote a law to require insurance coverage and later founded the Autism Academy of South Carolina to help children reach their full potential.

You can vote up to November 29th.  Please vote today!
