2016 recipients of the SCWLA Foundation Scholarships: HILARY MARTIN and KATIE ELIZABETH LOWERY

The South Carolina Women Lawyers Foundation is pleased to announce the 2016 recipients of the SCWLA Foundation Scholarships: HILARY MARTIN and KATIE ELIZABETH LOWERY, both of the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Katie and Hilary are both members of the South Carolina Law Review and in the top 20 students in their law school class, but still make time to give back to their community.

Hilary is the President of Women in Law and also serves on the Pro Bono Board.  She has helped to organize the Wil to Run, a 5K run to benefit Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands, the Halloween Children’s Carnival for homeless and underprivileged kids from Hannah House and St. Lawrence Place and the Cinderella Project, which collects gowns and accessories to help girls attend their high school proms in style.  Hilary has also served as a Guardian ad Litem with Richland County CASA and has served as a Peer Mentor for 1L students.

In addition to serving as Student Works Editor on the South Carolina Law Review, Katie is also active in Women in Law, including assisting at the Halloween Children’s Carnival.  She also volunteers with the Ronald McDonald House Charity and raises funds in connection with the Relay for Life benefiting the American Cancer Society. Katie has also served as a Law School Ambassador, giving tours to prospective students and tutors first year students in civil procedure.

Please join us in congratulating these wonderful young women and encouraging them in their studies and anticipated contributions to the South Carolina legal community!

The SCWLA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization which offers scholarships to deserving law students and facilitates pro bono legal work and other volunteer and philanthropic efforts by women lawyers in South Carolina.
