Let the Sunshine in: Drafting Freedom of Information Act Requests that Get Results!

Please join us on Friday, March 8th for a fascinating look at how to how to draft Freedom of Information Act Requests that get results.  Our second CLE of 2019 will be presented by SCWLA member, Emily Brown (Assistant County Attorney for York County).  Emily’s duties with York County include advising the County and training employees and boards on the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Emily has both received FOIA requests, and has drafted FOIA requests for submission to other agencies, so she understands the issues from both sides.

Emily will be delivering a practical presentation designed for non-government lawyers that will cover these topics:

  • the differences between FOIA and discovery under the SCRCP;
  • the types of information available under FOIA and the way governmental entities produce that information;
  • how to draft a FOIA request to achieve your desired results; and
  • how to calculate and, in some cases, avoid fees.

Please join us for delicious lunch at Amelie’s Left Bank (157 East Main Street, Rock Hill) from 11:30 am to 1 pm on March 8th. And best of all, your lunch and CLE (credit pending) is absolutely free if you are a SCWLA member!
