01.12.2017 SCWLA Old English CLE Luncheon
January 12 Old English CLE at the Rock Hill City Club
As we all prepare for the holidays, it’s not too early to be thinking about how to finish up our CLE requirements for the year. One of the benefits of your SCWLA membership is a free CLE coming up on January 12, 2017.
We are fortunate to have Barbara Seymour (Deputy Disciplinary Counsel for the South Carolina Supreme Court) coming up from Columbia to present a CLE that is accredited for 90 minutes of ethics credit on Thursday, January 12, 2017. Thanks to Bev Carroll’s membership at the Rock Hill City Club (140 E. Main Street, Rock Hill), we will be able to use the City Club’s private room without a room charge, which means that we will be able to provide our members with a delicious lunch and a CLE presentation at no charge. Please arrive at 11:30 am for lunch because the program will start promptly at noon and run to 1:30. Don’t worry if you can only stay for an hour; you can sign out when you leave and at least get credit for the portion of the program you attended.
The 90 minute program will cover two topics:
Discrimination and the Practice of Law - Ms. Seymour will discuss the new ABA Model Rule 8.4(g) prohibiting harassment and discrimination in the context of the history of gender discrimination in the legal profession. Ms. Seymour will review the evolution of the new rule and discuss the implications of adopting it in South Carolina.
Ethics and Discipline Update - Ms. Seymour will review of trends and statistics in the world of lawyer discipline and ethics. Ms. Seymour will review significant Supreme Court decisions in disciplinary cases from 2016, as well as address recent rule changes and Ethics Advisory Opinions.
Please make sure to renew your SCWLA membership when you pay your SC Bar dues (which are due on January 1, 2017) and email Nancy Olah by January 9th if you plan to join us for the free lunch and CLE on January 12, 2017. This is one of the benefits of your SCWLA membership, and we hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity.
Kind regards,
Nancy Olah
